Sandoval signs bill codifying right to same-sex marriage in Nevada
CARSON CITY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a bill on Friday that will codify the right to same-sex marriage in Nevada law.

AB 229, sponsored by Assemblyman Nelson Araujo, changes the Nevada Revised Statute in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, which established marriage as a constitutionally protected right for same-sex couples.
State law would now reflect that same-sex couples have the same parental rights as heterosexual couples.
It was one of 51 bills the governor signed into law on Friday. Other bills signed include changes to streamline the process for criminal background checks and the required expansion of providing a Juvenile Justice Bill of Rights for parents or guardians and at child detention facilities.
Sandoval vetoed two bills, one that would have revised provisions for release without bail and one that would have changed certain requirements related to achievement charter schools.
