Thrift Shop
The Thrift Shop is a nonprofit organization that serves the military community by providing a means for consignment of used personal and household property. Profits from sales are disbursed to various local charities and activities in the Fort Jackson area.
The Thrift Shop is located in the Mini Mall, 4713 Lee Road. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Consignments are accepted 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and by appointment for active-duty Soldiers who are unable to make it during regular consignment hours. Bookkeeping hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. If you are unable to make it to the shop to find out any information about your account or to pick up your check, please feel free to leave a stamped envelope and your check will be mailed to you.
Donations may be dropped off any time at the garage door at the rear of the building. Tax receipts for donations can be issued if donations are dropped off during business hours.

Qualified Recycling Program
Fort Jackson’s award-winning Qualified Recycling Program (QRP) is dedicated to protecting the environment through these initiatives: reduce, reuse and recycle. All members of the Fort Jackson community can do their part by bringing their recyclables to the QRP. The drop-off point is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The drop-off point accepts aluminum and metal cans, cardboard, all types of office paper, newspapers, magazines, clear, brown and green glass, plastics (numbers one and two) and scrap metals. There is also curbside recycling in the housing area every Wednesday. The QRP is in Building 5671 on the hill overlooking Burger King, just off Lee Road. Laundry
The post laundry is contractor-owned and operated by Crown Contract Services. The laundry provides a complete range of laundry and dry cleaning services to Soldiers, family members, Reserve component and retiree personnel.

Defense Military Pay Office
The Defense Military Pay Office, in the Strom Thurmond Building, Room 129, at 5450 Strom Thurmond Blvd., is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. ON-POST BANKING
Two financial institutions on the installation provide a wide range of services: the main office of AllSouth Federal Credit Union and a branch of Wells Fargo.
AllSouth Federal Credit Union is at 5470 Jackson Blvd. Lobby hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and drive-up window hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Lobby and drive-up windows are open until 6 p.m. Friday.
The credit union offers access to more than 17 ATMs on Fort Jackson that are connected to a number of ATM networks, including STAR and the Armed Forces Financial Network. Free online, mobile and text message banking are available to members. Also available is Respond 24, a telephone teller service that allows members toll-free access to their accounts from any touch-tone phone in the continental United States.
Credit union members also benefit from a wide variety of savings plans, checking accounts, auto loan programs, mortgage programs, credit card programs, full family membership, direct deposit, safe deposit boxes and branch offices located throughout the Columbia area. Soldier for Life
The Soldier for Life (SFL) Center, in Building 4600 at the corner of Strom Thurmond Boulevard and Lee Road, assists active-duty, Reserve and National Guard Soldiers, DOD civilians and their family members in transitioning from military to civilian life.
The SFL Center conducts congressionally mandated pre-separation counseling up to 24 months before retirement for retirees and up to 12 months prior to separation for all others. Family members are encouraged to participate in this process. The pre-separation counseling is conducted on a walk-in basis 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and is an automated process. Preregistration can be arranged and training scheduled in advance by calling 803-751-4109.
The pre-separation counseling provides information to the client about all available transition services, and the SFL Center makes referrals based upon the client’s needs and desires.
After receiving pre-separation counseling, clients are scheduled for a Transition Assistance Workshop sponsored by the Department of Labor. The two-day workshop consists of instruction in resume writing, translating military experience into civilian terminology, marketing and networking skills, dressing for success, preparing for job interviews, job offers and salary negotiation, and other job-search skills.
The SFL Center has a job announcement resource book and a reference library. It assists clients in obtaining DD Form 2586, Verification of Military Experience and Training, and associated documents.
The SFL Center has an automated self-service resume writer. The resume writer has two built-in formats for resumes, a built-in cover letter and thank-you letter format, and word processing. All are produced on a laser printer.
The SFL Center also provides the following services and information:
SFL job listing database: a computer network containing hundreds of jobs acquired through local SFL centers and dispersed around the globe to other centers.
Internet: giving clients access to various websites, both federal and private industry.
A practice interview module: giving clients the ability to practice interview skills and to bounce their answers off already provided answers commensurate with their rank or position.
A Job Assistance Training Application for those unable to attend the monthly workshop.
A scheduling module that enables clients to make their own appointments.
A Federal Job Search seminar.

Army Community Service, in Room 120 of the Strom Thurmond Building (Building 5450), offers a comprehensive array of programs and services dedicated to maintaining the readiness of Soldiers, families and communities by fostering self-reliance, resilience and stability. It is the commander’s principle family readiness agency, providing comprehensive, coordinated and responsive services that support readiness of Soldiers, civilian employees and their families during peace and war.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross provides services to armed forces personnel, their families and retirees, including family emergency messages, health and safety courses, disaster assistance and education, and blood mobile services. Red Cross offers volunteer opportunities at Moncrief Army Community Hospital, and in the station office, at Building 4512, Stuart Avenue. Year-round activities for youth volunteers are scheduled. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Legal Assistance and Claims
The Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, at 2600 Lee Road, is dedicated to its mission of providing legal support to the U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson by fairly administering the military justice system, providing quality legal advice and various legal services to eligible personnel.
Legal Assistance: Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of federal and training holidays, when the office is closed. Basic powers of attorney and notary services are available on a walk-in basis during normal hours. Clients wishing to speak with a legal assistance attorney are usually seen by appointment, generally available within three to five working days. Walk-in hours are available for quick consultations with attorneys 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. (Please note: Walk-in hours are not available for preparation of wills or for other matters requiring more than a quick consult.) In addition, Reserve component legal assistance attorneys are available on some weekends by appointment. The telephone number for legal assistance is 803-751-4287.
Claims: Claimants may file a claim or their notice of loss or damage of household goods (HHG) during office hours, which are 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. If the claims office is closed, claimants nearing their 75-day deadline for notifying a carrier of loss or damaged HHG should fax or email their forms directly to the carrier. Administrative Law: The Administrative Law Division provides accurate and timely legal advice to the command; provides legal oversight in specialized areas such as environmental, labor, ethics, FOIA and contract law; and briefs investigating officers (ROS, AR 15-6, Art 32, LOD) and reviews investigations for legal sufficiency. Military Justice: Criminal Law Division prosecutes general and special courts-martial and magistrate cases competently and zealously on behalf of the command; represents the command as recorder and efficiently processes administrative separation actions; and provides informative and motivating military law instruction to commanders, staff and student personnel. Army Continuing Education System
The J. Willis Cantey Continuing Education Services Center houses 18 classrooms, including three digital training classrooms ideal for training with VTT and VTC capability and high-speed internet access, a science laboratory, four computer labs and two testing rooms. In addition, the 35,000-square-foot structure houses a learning center, four college and university offices, and the Soldier for Life-Transition Assistance Program. The Education Center, Building 4600, is on Strom Thurmond Boulevard and Lee Road across the street from Burger King and next to the Thomas Lee Hall Library. MULTI-LEARNING FACILITY
The Multi-Learning Facility offers computers to assist in training, education, and professional and self-development. Individualized computer-based instruction provides students with numerous self-paced programs in such areas as Basic Skills in Education Program, computer applications and defensive driving.
COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY COURSES
Midlands Technical College offers associate degrees in criminal justice and management at Fort Jackson. Numerous other degree and certificate programs are offered at the Airport and Beltline campuses. Soldiers and family members are welcome at both campuses. The Beltline campus is located only 2 miles from Gate 1, and the Airport campus is about 15 miles from Fort Jackson, near the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. Midlands Technical College is a member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges and offers liberal arts transferable courses under this program.
The University of South Carolina on Fort Jackson offers a varied curriculum rooted in the liberal arts and aimed at preparing students to continue learning in higher education settings and throughout life. The curriculum allows students to complete associate degrees in science and the arts. Military students and family members also may take undergraduate and graduate course at the Columbia campus.
Claflin University on Fort Jackson offers two undergraduate degree completion programs: a bachelor of science in organizational management and a bachelor of arts in sociology/criminal justice administration. The program is a nontraditional program serving adults 22 and older. The program is open to active-duty military, adult family members, retirees and civilians. Webster University on Fort Jackson offers a master of business administration and four master of arts degree programs: human resources management, information technology management, management and leadership, and business and organizational management. Soldiers and their family members, DOD employees, retirees, National Guard, Reserve and civilians may enroll at the Fort Jackson Webster University. Webster University is a global educator with more than 100 campuses worldwide, with 46 of these campuses located on military installations. With 29 computers available for internet access, free Wi-Fi, and scanning, copy and printing services, the library is your one stop for all of your information resources.

For 24/7 homework and research assistance, you’ll have access to a large selection of searchable electronic databases filled with the most current encyclopedias, e-books, newspapers, scholarly journals, magazines and more.

Child, Youth and School Services (CYS Services) provides the Fort Jackson community with quality child development options and youth programs, which can reduce the conflict between parenting responsibilities and mission requirements, enhance the development of children and youth, and engage them in constructive activities during their discretionary time.
CYS Services Parent Central, in Room AO1 of Mann Community Center, Building 3392 on the corner of Magruder Avenue and Gregg Street, provides one-stop service for families interested in registering their children for child care and youth services. Vacancy information and waiting lists are maintained there, as well as information for all available programs. CHILD DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
Fort Jackson has two child development centers for children, infant through age 5, two shared centers for children, infant through fifth grade, two off post Family Child Care homes and a 24/7 center to meet the needs for child care on Fort Jackson. These programs serve the needs of Soldiers and civilian employees by providing quality, dependable child care. Curriculum for all child development center (CDC) programs regardless of setting is child-oriented with an emphasis on creative, age-appropriate activities, which encourage children to acquire knowledge about themselves and their environment. Our early childhood programs use the Creative Curriculum.

The Lee Road Child Development Center is a 20-capacity facility for children of all ages designed to provide around-the-clock care. It is certified to operate by Department of Defense.
Fees for hourly care are a flat rate of $4 per hour. Fees for shift care are based on total family income. Overnight and weekend care are provided at no cost for active-duty Soldiers and National Guard and Reserve with appropriate documentation of mission requirements or Battle Training Assembly, respectively.
Lee Road CDC provides the following types of care:
Full-day care for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age whose parents work rotating shifts, second shift or third shift or extended hours for mission.
Overnight and weekend care in support of mission requirements for active-duty soldiers assigned to Fort Jackson.
Saturday and Sunday care for National Guard and Reserve during Battle Training Assembly.
Hourly care for individuals needing care on a space available basis if care is not available in other CYS Services facilities.
FAMILY CHILD CARE

Family Child Care homes offer care for children 4 weeks to 12 years of age by trained and certified Family Child Care providers located on post in government quarters or off post in residential areas. FCC providers, their spouses and children older than 12 must pass required background checks and participate in a family interview. FCC homes, once certified, are monitored and inspected on a regular basis. The FCC program offers self-employment for military spouses, enabling them to add to the family’s income while staying at home with their own children. The FCC program is certified to operate by Department of Defense.

Fees for Family Child Care are set by the Department of Defense and are on a sliding scale based on income. Patrons using Family Child Care will receive a 10 percent discount on Fort Jackson post child care rates.
The FCC Subsidy Assistance Program helps keep fees in FCC homes below those in the on-post Child Development Centers.
SCHOOL-AGE SERVICES
This program bridges the gap between Child Development Services and Youth Services and provides quality programs for youth in kindergarten through fifth grades. The School Age Services Program operates from two shared centers and one dedicated school-age center. School Age Services Programs are certified by Department of Defense, accredited by the Council on Accreditation and affiliated with Boys and Girls Clubs of America and 4-H.
Occasional users receive five hours free a month for the afternoon program and weekend hours as part of CYS Services registration; additional hours are available at an hourly, part-day or full-day rate.
HOOD STREET SCHOOL AGE CENTER

IMBODEN STREET SCHOOL AGE CENTER

The Imboden Street School Age Center is a shared center with early childhood and school-age spaces. It is certified to operate by Department of Defense and the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Council on Accreditation. Normal operating hours for the school-age section of the facility are 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during full days. On school days, the before-school program operates 5 to 8:30 a.m. and the afternoon school program operates 2 to 6:30 p.m. The facility is open for school-age open recreation on the first and third Friday evening each month from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and every Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.
Fees for before- and after-school care and summer camps are based on total family income. All registered users receive four free hours monthly. For before- and after-school care and summer camps, these four hours were considered when setting the fees. There are also 10 additional hours allowed for attendance at 4-H meetings or events.

MIDDLE SCHOOL AND TEEN PROGRAM (MS/T)

The Middle School and Teen Program operates from the Youth Center. As a Boys & Girls Club affiliate and 4-H partner, the Middle School and Teen Program offers age-appropriate activities for youth in sixth through 12th grade. The Middle School and Teen Program is certified to operate by Department of Defense. Hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 2 to 10 p.m. Friday, 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Supervised activities in four service areas include sports, fitness and health; arts, recreation and leisure; and life skills, citizenship and leadership; and academic support, mentoring and intervention.

YOUTH SPORTS

The Youth Sports Program is a great place for youth to learn sportsmanship, practice new skills and make new friends. Emphasis is placed on fun and fundamentals rather than on competition. A variety of team and individual sports are offered throughout the year: flag football, tackle football, soccer, basketball, cheerleading, baseball, softball, track and cross-country. In addition, there are a variety of fitness-related special events and activities to encourage youth to become physically fit and develop habits that support a healthy lifestyle.
The Youth Sports Program is certified by the Department of Defense. Program hours vary by season of play and sport. Sports sign up is handled by CYS Services Parent Central Services. Sports staff can normally be contacted at 803-751-5040 between 1 and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Religious Support
The Religious Support Office (RSO) provides a variety of dynamic and inspirational worship services, programs and activities for the Fort Jackson community. Worship services and counseling support are available at all of Fort Jackson’s installation chapels. MAIN POST CHAPEL
Opened in early 1986, the Main Post Chapel (MPC) is designed to serve the installation’s permanent party population. MPC is conveniently located at the corner of Strom Thurmond Boulevard and Scales Avenue adjacent to the Scales Avenue Child Development Center. The chapel provides family services for Protestant and Catholic congregations.
Protestant programs include: Protestant Worship Service, 9:30 a.m.; Sunday School, 10:45 a.m.; Chapel Youth Group; PWOC; and Bible studies.
Catholic programs include: weekday Mass, 11:30 a.m.; Sunday Mass, 11 a.m.; and CCD (September to May). In addition, the Islamic services for trainees (Islamic Studies at 8 a.m., Sunday and Jumah Service at 12:45 p.m. Friday) are held at MPC. For more information, call 803-751-6469/6681.
DANIEL CIRCLE CHAPEL
Located on Jackson Boulevard across from Darby Field, Daniel Circle Chapel also serves the permanent party, retirees, DOD civilians and AIT/IET Soldiers. This large and vibrant Collective Protestant Gospel congregation has a complete program consisting of children’s, men’s, women’s and single adult’s ministries. Worship service begins at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.
ANDERSON CHAPEL
A troop chapel providing a 369th AG Battalion Protestant service for trainees at 8 a.m. is at 2335 Jackson Blvd. and Anderson Street. Other trainee services include the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) held 9:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, LDS Family Social 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and a LDS Scripture Study 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Church of Christ Service is offered at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
BAYONET CHAPEL
A troop chapel, at 9476 Kemper St., is the location of the 193rd Infantry Brigade Unit Ministry Team. Worship services include an Anglican/Liturgical service at 8:30 a.m. Sunday (Communion is observed every Sunday). Additionally, ChapelNext, a contemporary Protestant service meets at 11 a.m. Sunday (Children’s Church is also provided). ChapelNext Bible Study is at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
MAGRUDER CHAPEL
A troop chapel, located at 4360 Magruder Ave., is the location of the 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment Unit Ministry Team. 2-13th has a Protestant service at 8 a.m. The Hispanic Protestant service for trainees begins at 10 a.m. Sunday. The Pagan Sacred Well service begins at 11 a.m. Sunday. All services are trainee-focused.
MEMORIAL CHAPEL
Memorial Chapel, at 4470 Jackson Blvd., is Fort Jackson’s historic chapel. It was the original main installation chapel and displays the flags of the 11 divisions that were stationed on Fort Jackson. Services offered Sunday are a Jewish service for trainees that is conducted at 9:15 a.m. A tradition Protestant service also meets at 11:15 a.m. The Adult Bible Study meets at 9:45 a.m. in the Religious Support Office Conference Room.
CHAPLAIN’S FAMILY LIFE AND RESILIENCY CENTER
The Chaplain’s Family Life Center’s mission is to improve quality of life by helping people solve personal, marital and relational problems in a confidential setting.
